Institutional gesture to remember Di Stefano
In the halftime break of Valencia CF's first visit to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano in Valdebebas, club president Anil Murthy and ambassador Ricardo Arias paid tribute to the legendary former Real Madrid player and Valencia CF coach who gives his name to the stadium.
The VCF representatives handed Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid a vintage framed image of Di Stéfano with the European Cup Winners Cup trophy from 1980, achieved with the club.
Di Stéfano's time as Valencia CF coach was highly successful. In addition to winning that honour in 1980, he also took the team to the LaLiga title in the 1970/71 season and managed to return them to the Primera División in 1986/87 in his second spell as coach .
